Licoricia of Winchester, the UK constitution, and the impacts of migration were all on the agenda at a Humanities Day this week.

The event, run by the Wellington College Student Alliance, featured lessons in history, geography, politics, philosophy, and English.

Open to Year 9 students from the 27 schools in the alliance, it was designed to go beyond their usual curriculum and introduce them to subjects they haven’t studied before.

Afterwards a teacher said: “I enjoyed watching the students complete the sessions. They enjoyed each session and continued to grow in confidence as the day went by. They loved the hands on experience they got to have with maps in geography and learning more about important people in history. They especially enjoyed politics as this was something we do not offer until A level. They enjoyed debating and being ‘hands on’. The English session promoted individual creativity and built on their current writing skills.”

The 10 schools involved included Bohunt, Sandhurst, St Crispin’s and The Forest, with around 100 students attending along with their teachers.

The popular event, which takes place every year, followed a STEM Day held the previous day.
