Odysseus and the Trojan War were among the subjects Wheeler Programme students learned about at their latest study day.
The classics lesson was designed to to get them excited for Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, set for release in July.
On the same day they attended a session with Professor David Herd, Professor of Literature and Human Rights at the University of St Andrews.
The founder of the Refugee Tales project, he talked about walking, sharing stories and the politics of human rights, asking the Year 10 students to think about what it meant for refugees to tell their stories and how it might make them feel.
The students also met cavapoochon Fudge, one of Wellington College’s therapy dogs, and learned about her work at the school from head of safeguarding Delyth Lynch, pictured above.
Finally, they discussed careers of the future with Nikki Coleman from the Prospect Careers Trust, who got them thinking about job titles and emerging career sectors.
This cohort of students come from 15 different local state schools including Bohunt, Charters and Edgbarrow.
