A Humanities Day organised by Wellington College Learning Alliance has been described as inspiring and engaging in feedback gained after the event.

One teacher said: “Teachers were very impressive; passionate, intelligent and highly motivational. The quality of teaching was truly inspirational, facilitating aspirational learning which was enabled by excellent resources, debate and questioning.”

Another said: “The teaching staff were highly knowledgeable and introduced students to new and engaging elements of their subject areas. The students left clearly inspired, with many discussing what they had learned on the journey home.”

All the respondents also agreed that the day had been a valuable addition to their school’s enrichment, co curricular or careers activities programme.

Topics studied during the day included the nature of memory, migration, and how trade can benefit or hinder the economic development of different countries.

The event, run by the Wellington College Student Alliance, featured lessons in history, geography, psychology, philosophy, and English.

Open to Year 9 students from the 26 schools in the alliance, it was designed to go beyond their usual curriculum and introduce them to subjects they hadn’t studied before.

The 16 schools involved included Edgbarrow, St Crispin’s and The Forest, with around 160 students attending along with their teachers.

The popular event, which takes place every year, followed a STEM Day held the previous day.
