Students interested in pursuing an apprenticeship when they leave school got some tips on how to secure one at a new WCSA workshop.
Dale Willis from My Great First Job delivered the workshop on apprenticeships, including degree apprenticeships, at Garth Hill College in Bracknell.
He taught students how to prepare a great CV, how to succeed at interview and how to use LinkedIn to look for apprenticeships.
He also showed them how the skills they may have gained from part-time jobs, volunteering, or clubs can be used to good effect at interview.
The workshop attracted students from seven schools in the WCSA partnership, which funded the event for its member schools. All of those who attended said afterwards that they would now feel more confident applying for an apprenticeship .
One student added: “I liked that the speaker Dale gave real life examples about people who were in a similar position to me now and how they have gotten an apprenticeship.
“It was very specific and precise in terms of things to say, manner of speaking, picking the right things to talk about at interview.”
Another added: “It was very informative. The way Dale described things was really easy to remember. It helped a lot with misconceptions that he cleared up, and he was so keen to help.”
Sarah Dethick, Careers Co-ordinator and Sixth Form Learning Mentor at Garth Hill School, said: “We cannot thank Wellington College enough for putting on this great event with Dale Willis from My First Great Job.
“All students from all schools got so much from this session and it will help all of them with their CVs, interviews and LinkedIn profiles as they go forward on their post-18 journey”.
The WCSA organised the event following a consultation with Garth Hill about what their students could benefit from this year.
