Budding entrepreneurs came to Wellington College this week to get tips on how to make it in business.

Eight students from schools in the Wellington College Student Alliance visited for a day as part of the Wellington Future Founders programme.

Each student has been given £20 and tasked with making a profit, a percentage of which they agreed they will pay back at the end of the year.

This week they met Wellington College head of business Simon Roundell, founder of drinks company Thomson & Scott Amanda Thomson, and Rochelle White from Rochelle White Communications.

Mr Roundell told them to keep a track of their costs and their results and create a video to go with their business.

He added: “Next time we will talk abut next steps and what you’ve done. It might be that you need to pivot to something else. This is about resilience and problem solving. Whenever you come up against a barrier, be resilient and think about how you get round it.”

The student entrepreneurs are from schools including Tomlinscote, Blessed Hugh Faringdon and Bohunt and are taking part in the project alongside students from Wellington College.

The WFF project comprises six days throughout 2025 and gives the students a chance to meet businesspeople and discuss topics like how to write a business plan, generate sales and manage your cash flow.

The external pupils were selected to take part in the project by the Wellington College Learning Alliance, which collaborates with state schools to create extra opportunities for their students.
