Head boys and girls from schools in the Wellington College Student Alliance came together to share experiences and develop their leadership skills at a conference.
Twenty-four sixth-form pupils from WCSA schools including Garth Hill, The Holt and The Piggott attended the event at Wellington College on October 10, joining delegates from as far afield as Paris and Aberdeen.
The day began with a welcome from Wellington’s Heads of College, Georgie and Dan, who set an energising and inclusive tone before headmaster James Dahl officially opened the event.
The morning featured a keynote presentation from Dr Katie Granville-Chapman, who challenged students to reflect on what it means to flourish as leaders in an ever-changing world.
Delegates then took part in a series of interactive breakout sessions: Connect, Inspire, and Flourish, expertly led by Wellington prefects. These sessions fostered collaboration, idea-sharing, and practical learning, as students explored how leadership can shape positive change within their communities.
After a networking lunch, the afternoon continued with a powerful session inspired by Scott Galloway’s book The Algebra of Happiness. This thought-provoking discussion examined the relationship between ambition, well-being and long-term fulfilment.
Piggott School student Gabi said: “I enjoyed meeting the head girls and boys from loads of different schools as it gave me the opportunity to discuss ideas and opportunities I can bring back to Piggott. I particularly enjoyed the talks on how to become a better leader and Scott Galloway’s talk on money.”
Fellow student Arnav said: “The event was truly useful for coming up with new, genuinely interesting, ideas to encourage more community engagement from peers and younger students.”
Daniel and Dajia, Head Boy and Head Girl at Garth Hill College, added: “We enjoyed the talks immensely, especially the motivational leadership talk and we took away how being a compassionate leader has three times the return.
“We found the networking invaluable and plan to stay in touch with the international network we made. Thank you to Wellington College for hosting this great event.”
This year marked a major milestone for Wellington College as it was the 20th anniversary of the Heads of Schools Conference, a cornerstone event in its calendar that has inspired and connected young leaders from across the UK and beyond for two decades.
