Maths teachers from local schools got together in person to discuss GCSE and A level trends at a recent meeting.
Organised by Wellington College maths teacher Narinder Basra, the group heard from exam board OCR about trends in the summer exam results.
The event, which was part of the Wellington College Teaching Alliance’s series of subject-specific support groups, was attended by Jo Armitage from Charters, Matthew Jones from Kings International College, Mary Godden from Waingels College, Mark Massey from The Forest School, Rachel Knowles from Edgbarrow and George Wells from Wellington College.
Mr Basra said: “It was a fantastic first meeting of the group.
“The attendees brought lots of energy and expertise to the discussions, sharing their experiences in their own schools so that we could learn from one another.
“The next meeting in December will include a discussion on intervention strategies, which will be beneficial to all maths departments as we set about the final preparations for the 2023 exam series.”
The group will meet again in December and February to collaborate on how teachers can help their students in the summer exams and share what they are doing in their own schools.
In the summer term the group hopes to hold a programme for students, possibly looking at support with Oxbridge preparation, events for more able students, a Year 10 event on motivations for studying maths beyond GCSE and a session focused on improving student understanding of A-level mechanics, maybe with a focus on practical demonstrations.
