Can AI help teachers save time on admin tasks? And how should students be able to use it?

These were two of the questions put to participants at an online workshop organised by Wellington College Teaching Alliance.

AI and education expert Dr Mara Simmons posed the questions to teachers from a range of local state schools, including whether or not Year 8 student “Alberto” would be cheating if he used AI to help him study for his chemistry test, review his English essay and generate ideas for a new character in a story.

Lindsay Gowland, WCTA co-ordinator, said: “It was a very interesting Teach Meet, and we had good feedback.

“I have never used AI because I have always been slightly scared of it. But it was interesting to learn that it can be used as a revision tool, for example getting it to test you when you have been revising.”
